Today’s last class is on Monday. Students wrote their wishes on paper strips (Tanzaku), which is a traditional activity for TANABATA (Star festival). As a summary of a year, reading speed, comprehension, and confidence have improved significantly. We are looking forward to seeing you next class!!! 今日は月曜日ラストのクラスでした。みんなで七夕にちなんで短冊を作りそれぞれ願い事を書きました。一年を通して文章を読む力が大きく成長していると感じました。このまま夏休みも継続してお勉強続けてくれたらありがたいです！夏休み明けにまた元気にみんなで会えるのを楽しみにしています！

For their final lesson with one departing student, the group made a classic Japanese kids’ meal featuring omurice, hamburger steak, Napolitan pasta, and ice cream, and the student couldn’t believe they had made it all themselves! 今日は一人の生徒が最後の授業だったのでみんなで一緒に豪華なお子様ランチ（ハンバーグ、ナポリタン、オムライス、アイスクリーム）を作りました。とってもスペシャルなおいしいランチを作ることができました。子供たちはその豪華さに「自分たちで作ったのが信じられない！」と話していました。

The class kicked off with an energetic kanji karuta card game, followed by a student-made kanji quiz and a mini lesson where one student taught everyone how to write the character for “I” (私) with a fun memory trick. They wrapped up with a group reading about humanoid robots, and their katakana skills have improved so much! クラスは活気あふれる漢字かるたで始まり、続いて生徒が手作りした漢字テストに挑戦しました。さらに、ある生徒が「私」という漢字の書き方を楽しい覚え方とともにみんなに教えてくれました。最後は人型ロボットについてのテキストを音読し、カタカナを読む力の成長をみんなで実感しました！

In today’s class, we cooked “Nikujaga,” which is recommended by one of our volunteer members. The weather was really amazing, so we prepared a meal at garden. During the simmering of the meal, we played a card game and trampoline. 本日はボランティアメンバーおすすめの肉じゃが料理を作りました。天気がとてもいい日だったので、外で準備をしたり煮込んでいる間には外でトランポリンやトランプをして楽しみました。肉じゃがはとてもおいしくでき、みんなたくさん食べていました。

Everyone’s Japanese level is improving rapidly, and they were able to write their sentences almost by themselves. 本日のクラスでは5月17日に行われたノルウェーの祝日についての作文を書いてもらいました。日本語のレベルが着実と上がってきており、自力で自分のパートを完成させました。それぞれの体験を聞くことができてとても楽しい授業になりました！

Students presented their homework, practiced kanji through a fun quiz and stroke order review, and discovered that the character for “flower” is made up of katakana shapes. It is a highlight for everyone! 今日は宿題発表をおこないそれぞれ習った漢字で文づくりをしました。また、音読では「スーパーマリオ」の映画についての読解プリントを行いました。本日のハイライトとして「花」という形の成り立ちについて学んたり、新しい言葉も学びました。

Today we made “CHIMAKI” and a birthday cake with the students. One of the students had a birthday a few days before, so we celebrated with a handmade cake. CHIMAKI is a popular traditional Japanese sweet in the western part of Japan, which is mochi wrapped in bamboo leaves. Afterward, we played tag outside with the students and our assistants. 本日はちまきと誕生日ケーキを作りました。一人の生徒が教室の数日前に誕生日を迎えていたので一緒にケーキを作ってみんなでお祝いをしました。またちまきという西日本でよく食べられているお菓子も作りました。竹の葉で来るんであるお餅できな粉を付けておいしく食べました。その後は外で鬼ごっこをして遊びました。みんなよく走りとても楽しい時間となりました☺

Today’s cooking class featured strawberry daifuku and grilled dango! They handcrafted mochi sweets from scratch and enjoyed a variety of toppings, bringing plenty home as gifts for their families. 本日はいちご大福と焼き団子を作りました。アシスタントの方がお休みだったので生徒二人と教師一人の少ない人数でしたがゆったりとしたクッキングセッションになりました。作ったお餅はいろいろなトッピングを載せて家族へのプレゼントとしてお持ち帰りしたりしました。

This time, we made bread, which is related to the Easter Holiday. The kids decorated the bread with colors and shaped it creatively. At the end, we had a fun Easter egg hunt in the garden, whre they searched for hidden chocolate! 今回はイースターにちなんだパン作りを行いました。それぞれいろいろな工夫を凝らし春らしくi彩り豊かな素敵なパンが完成しました。最後には、お庭に隠されたチョコレートを探すイースターエッグハントを行い、楽しい時間を過ごしました。

今回はみんなでキャラ弁作りに挑戦しました！みんな様々なものをモチーフにしてとてもかわいいお弁当を作っていました。また、カステラという日本の伝統的なお菓子作りも行い、最後にみんなでできたてのカステラを食べました😋 This time, we made Kyara-ben whcih is a lunch box with food decorated to look like anime characters and such. Everyone had a different motif and made a cute lunch box. Also, we made castella, a traditional Japanese sweet, and at the end, everyone enjoyed the freshly made castella together 😋

今週から新しいボランティアが参加しみんなで自己紹介をしながら楽しみました。その後は素敵な絵も添えてある手作りの漢字テストに取り組みました！音読と合唱では”あまふりくまのこ”を合唱しました。 We have a new volunteer this week!! At first, we introduced ourselves and shared our favorite animals. After that, we worked on a fun Kanji test, which the children created with cute pictures! Today’s song activity is “Amefurikumanoko.”

子供たちの希望で「うれしいひなまつり」をみんなで歌いました。また、宿題本の感想や好きな部分についてみんなでシェアしたり漢字テストを作ったりなどたくさんのアクティビティを行いました。みんなの採点の仕方が個性たっぷりで面白かったです☺ We sang a song called “Ureshii Hinamatsuri” together. We also did many activities, such as sharing our thoughts and favorite parts from the homework book and creating Kanji Tests together. Everyone’s way of grading was unique, which made it really fun!!
